2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account Information: When you create an account via Google Sign-In, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google.
  • Documents: Legal documents you upload, screenshot, or paste for analysis. These may contain sensitive personal or business information.
  • Preferences: Your selected jurisdiction, preferred output language, and other settings you configure.
  • Payment Information: When you make a purchase, payment details are processed by our payment processor (Paddle). We do not store your full credit card number.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Information: We collect device identifiers and browser fingerprints to prevent abuse of our free analysis feature and ensure fair usage.
  • IP Address: Your IP address is collected for security, fraud prevention, and to enforce usage limits.
  • Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the Service, including pages visited, features used, and analysis history.
  • Cookies: We use cookies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and track free analysis usage.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • Process and analyze your legal documents using AI technology
  • Save your analysis results to your account (if logged in)
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions
  • Prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access

4. Document Processing and AI Analysis

When you submit a document for analysis:

  • Processing: Your document is sent to our AI service providers (including Anthropic's Claude and Google's Gemini) for analysis. These providers process the text to generate explanations.
  • Temporary Storage: Documents are held temporarily in memory during processing and are not permanently stored on our servers unless you explicitly save the analysis.
  • Analysis Results: If you are logged in, your analysis results are saved to your account. You can delete these at any time from your dashboard.
  • Document Hashing: We create a cryptographic hash of document content to prevent duplicate free analyses. The hash cannot be reversed to reveal document content.

5. Data Retention

  • Account Data: Retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter for legal and business purposes.
  • Analysis Results: Stored until you delete them or close your account. Anonymous analyses are not permanently stored.
  • Uploaded Documents: Not permanently stored. Documents are processed in memory and discarded after analysis is complete.
  • Abuse Prevention Data: IP addresses and device fingerprints used for abuse prevention are retained for up to 90 days.
  • Payment Records: Transaction records are retained as required by law and for accounting purposes.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate ClearClause:

  • Google (Authentication): We use Google Sign-In for account authentication. Google's privacy policy applies to data collected during sign-in.
  • Anthropic (Claude AI): Document text is processed by Claude for legal analysis. Anthropic's data processing terms apply.
  • Google (Gemini AI): Screenshots and images are processed by Google's Gemini for OCR text extraction.
  • Paddle (Payments): Payment processing is handled by Paddle. Your payment information is subject to Paddle's privacy policy.
  • FingerprintJS: Used for device fingerprinting to prevent abuse. Fingerprint data is processed locally and only the resulting identifier is transmitted.

7. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in these circumstances:

  • Service Providers: With third-party vendors who help us operate the Service (as described in Section 6).
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, or governmental authority.
  • Protection of Rights: To protect the rights, property, or safety of ClearClause, our users, or others.
  • Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with appropriate notice to users.
  • With Your Consent: When you explicitly share an analysis via a shareable link, making it publicly accessible.

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information:

  • All data transmission is encrypted using TLS/SSL
  • Secure authentication via Google OAuth 2.0
  • Regular security assessments and updates
  • Access controls limiting employee access to user data
  • Secure cloud infrastructure with industry-standard protections

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information and account. You can delete individual analyses from your dashboard at any time.
  • Data Portability: Request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Opt-Out: Opt out of certain data processing activities where applicable.

10. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies for:
